The importance of rest days

No cycling or running today – it’s a rest day.

That concept can seem counter-intuitive when you’re training for a particular goal, but it’s essential.  When you train, you deplete your energy reserves and pull your muscle fibres apart.  Rest days allow your body to repair, rebuild and replenish – and it’s this rebuilding process that improves your ability to do more, faster.  If you don’t, your body can become fatigued, and your training will suffer.

So, today, I shall be at me Mum’s, eating roast turkey and veggies (no potatoes…) and no chocolate.  Whatever you’re up to – happy weekend! (and don’t forget to rest)
